Vicente de Moura, exhibition curator, C. G. Jung Institute archivist, Jungian analyst
“Our instincts have ridden so infinitely many times, unharmed, over the problems that arise at this stage of life that we may be sure that the transformation processes which make the transition possible have long been prepared in the unconscious and are only waiting to be released” – C.G. Jung
Jung’s concept of individuation is central in his psychology. Psyche has a goal in its development—to follow the way of nature. Will we listen to what our psyches whisper to us? Jung saw in the work of the ancient Alchemists symbolic equivalents to this process, and he described the parallels between modern psyche and ancient alchemy in the case of Miss X, one of Jung’s patients. This presentation follows Miss X’s journey and shows Jung’s understanding of the way of nature.
General Admission: $5, free for Oglethorpe University Museum of Art members and with a Petrel Pass.
