a simple solution for something fun to do.

Saturday night I attended the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra with Dr. Sally Jamara, a friend and long-time devotee of the arts. As part of the Delta Classical Series of Concerts the feature was MOZART. The Overture to Le Nozze di Figaro was followed by Concerto No. 5 for Violin and Orchestra in A Major and featuring David Coucheron on the violin.
Mr. Coucheron, from Oslo, Norway, began playing violin at the age of three. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music, a Master of Music from The Juilliard School and a Master of Musical Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Currently only twenty-six years old, Coucheron’s res
ume is extensive with a long list of scholar
ship awards, competitions, media appearances and recordings. Mr. Coucheron often performs as a duo with his twenty-one-year-old sister, Julie who began playing piano at age four. She also has an impressive list of accomplishments.
Sally said, “David Coucheron's interpretation of Mozart's complex Concerto No. 5 for violin as “masterful and passionate." I agree. It it was a joy to watch Mr. Coucheron play his handsome 1725 Straivarious. (Incidentally, Mr. Coucheron is also quite handsome!) I would love to see the “Sibling Duo” play together someday. You can learn more about them at www.coucheron.com
Following a brief intermission, the orchestra preformed the Serenade No. 12 in C minor and the Symphony No. 38 in D Major. Music Director, Robert Spano was conducting. I don’t know Mr. Spano personally but was inspired by how happy he looked throughout the performance. Of course his back was to the audience most of the time but you could see his smile as he turned to the side and when he took his bows. It was inspirational to see someone who so obviously enjoys his work.
Prior to the concert, Sally and I had dinner at Table Table 1280. Located between the Woodruff Arts Center and the High Museum of Art, the restaurant was a very short walk to the performance and allowed us to park only once. They have a “getting to the show on time” special both the food and service were very good. It was a pleasant surprise that they gave us a ticket for free parking!
A fabulous performance and a nice dinner shared with a friend plus parking that’s both convenient and free! Now that’s a great evening!
